- a) Leadership course for service users and carers. A reminder (or fresh news if you’ve not already received it) of the service user and carer leadership course for mental health users and carers from the Northumberland and Tyne and Wear areas. Put together by the NTW NHS Trust, by the regionwide user and carer network, NEt (and hence, of course, the NTWSU&C network) and by NEMHDU, it’s been a great success in previous years. Get your applications in by Friday 24th of August, and maybe we’ll see you on the course (and do please distribute the attached info).
- b) OCD news/event.
Meeting for the friends and family of OCD sufferers, and for the sufferers themselves. The OCD support group that meets in Newcastle are holding a meeting for the friends and family of OCD sufferers, and for sufferers themselves, on Monday 10th September 2012 between 6.30 and 8.30 pm. Please advertise this meeting to anyone you think might be interested.
If anyone is interested, please phone ne1ocd_group so that we can let you know where the meeting will be (we may not be able to use SunCo House but if not we will hold the meeting somewhere else at the same time). The group are grateful for a Big Lottery Awards for All grant which enabled several of us to go to a conference run by the charity OCD Action. There were sessions for the carers, partners and parents of people with OCD as well as sessions on treating and reducing OCD.We want to hold a meeting where we will do our best to pass on what we have learned. We also have a good range of books on OCD, some of which give advice to the friends and family of OCD sufferers, which will be available to look at on 10th September. There will be time for friends and family, as well as sufferers themselves, to contribute or ask questions if they wish to do so.
Everyone in our group has OCD, so we do understand what it is like, and we will all do our best to help. Ours is a small and friendly group.
Assistant Secretary, OCD Support Group (Tyne and Wear/Northumberland)
