Dear all, an opportunity has arisen for interested service users and carers to volunteer to take part in NTW Trust’s Patient Led Assessment of the Care Environment (PLACE) visits for 2013. All in-patient units will be inspected by a PLACE team, which will usually consist of at least 4 people, 2 of whom will be patient or carer representatives. They will inspect the ward conditions and appearance,privacy,dignity and well-being, and the quality of catering, all from a patient’s perspective.
Some training is required to do this, and so sessions are being arranged, but they should not last longer than 2 hours. Representatives volunteering for this will be required to fill in a short questionnaire after each inspection. Inspection will last somewhere in the region of 4-6 hours a day, depending on the size of the unit(s) being visited.
The Trust aims to have 30-40 representatives to cover its 16 sites, and to allocate inspections to areas geographically convenient to the inspectors and/or areas in which the inspector expresses a particular interest.
