Some of you may have heard of news regarding holding a large anti-stigma event,(most likely at Grey’s Monument, Newcastle, in October time), in partnership with Time to Change, aimed to both tackle discrimination and raise awareness of mental health and of the help and groups and organisations available locally and regionally.
An event is not enough, though and work will also be starting soon on continuing this kind of campaigning and publicity work in an ongoing fashion.
We are looking for 2 service user or carer volunteers to join a steering group to plan and deliver a large regional Time to Change event in the North East this Autumn. There is already user and carer representation (indeed an overwhelming majority) on the provisional steering group, but you can’t have too much of a good thing, so here is the official blurb. Apologies for the short deadline, but do also note that there will be big opportunities to get involved and do some work for everyone: a steering group is well, just that, a steering group, and less important by far than the doing of things.
Want to build skills and gain experience? Get in touch if you…
· have or have had direct experience of mental health problems
· have experience and skills in event planning or event management
· have capacity to attend up to 6 meetings plus training/planning sessions between May and October
We are particularly interested in having someone on the steering group who has a disability and interest in accessibility issues.
If you are interested, please contact Time to Change Equalities Officer, Angela Slater by Wednesday 15 May.Telephone: 07813979080
