To ease this author’s way back into the mail-out habit, here’s a wee update/news about some initiatives coming very soon in relation to men’s health/male health issues, a major component of which is mental health and emotional wellbeing. Indeed those of you who know about the burgeoning Movember ‘movement’ will know that mental health is a key strand to its awareness-raising work.
By the way, if you are growing a moustache for Movember, do try and look like Charles Bronson (no, not that Charles Bronson, though on second thoughts…nah, right first time, it’s this one you want) or Lee Van Cleef. Maybe David Niven.
So, please find attached a pdf of events in and around Newcastle for International Men’s Health day, and you are cordially invited to the Star and Shadow cinema, this Tuesday 19th of November to see a moving, funny, poignant Finnish film, "Steam of Life" of men talking about life and their emotions. There will be some health related groups there with stalls and materials and a discussion afterwards. Starts about 6pm.
Then we have My Mind Matters and Change Ur Mind who present…MIND UR MOUSTACHE
Tuesday 26 November
This will be an evening of music and entertainment to promote awareness of the need to support young men with their mental health as well as raising money for Young Minds to develop a specific new project to support young men. This event has been planned and organised by young people from across the North East with lived experience of mental health who want to use their experiences to positively help others.
