You’re busy. I’m busy. We’re all busy in this late-capitalist dystopia where losses are socialised, gains are privatised and accrue to the few, while the many trudge on, working in ever-more-straitened circumstances for ever-decreasing returnees, inequalities widen and deepen and the marginalised and socially excluded incur daily depredations from on high. So, on that cheery note, here’s some news views etc in a (hopefully) accessible form that won’t get in the way of your doing good things in a challenging environment*.
First, because it does lighten the tone, and more importantly because it’s starting very soon, is news of a series of stand-up comedy workshops, ‘Laughter for Lasses’, for female service users, mental health survivors and supporters living in Tyne & Wear.It starts on February the 9th, and details are in the attachment LP Laughing Lasses.
Continuing the newsletter vibe, here’s the latest (January edition) from NEMHDU, attached as newsletter 36.
Rocking on through the attachments, please also find attached the flyer for the next adult ADHD support group for the region and its meting for the 16th of February.
Now, then, still doing hot pdf action, we come to Social Work, and what could be hotter than that. Attached is the Social Work Action Network charter, which is a great document that in an ideal world would be embedded in one or other of the party manifestos for the upcoming election. Read it and weep for why it almost certainly won’t be embraced.
Finally, a research request for a trainee clinical psychologist planning her thesis: she’s hoping to explore the experiences of adults who drop out of cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), by interviewing a range of adults across the North of England about their experience of this. She has full ethical approval etc, so if you’d like to help by relating your experiences, read the attachment called Participant Recruitment Advert and get in touch with Kay directly..
* Shouldn’t really use the term environment, nor similar ones like "economic climate" as that carries implications that somehow this is all natural, or part of Nature. It’s not. It’s the result of conscious decisions made and deeds done by those with power and money.
