Quick news, and you’re having a laugh, aren’t you?

A brief news mailout, briefer than usual, but there again, usual of late has been an absence of mailouts, so consider yourselves lucky (or not). A more considered, and possibly (but not for certain) more coherent round-up of news,views mental health stuff and shenanigans will be along before too much more time elapses, but this is not it.hree items, in short.

One: The next NTWSU&C network meeting is, as trailed about a month ago, on Friday the 29th of May (that’s this Friday) from 12 noon, with business proper starting at 12.30pm. The venue is the rather wonderful Gateshead Clubhouse,Worcester Green, Gateshead. A picture giving directions is attached.

Two: Launchpad are pleased to announce we have secured funding via the Community Foundation and Comic Relief to run further stand up comedy workshops,‘Laughter for Lasses 2’, for female service users and mental health survivors living in Tyne & Wear.

Sharon Race, a professional performer and writer who ran and was the resident MC at Laughing Lasses (“Newcastle’s premier all female comedy night” – Gigglebeats), will again facilitate the shorter in length workshops.

Some of the comments from the previous round of Laughter for Lasses, include:

The workshops will culminate in a stand up showcase on July 14 2015 to celebrate Disability Awareness Day.

The dates for the workshops are:

  • Monday 1 & Tuesday 2 June
  • Monday 8 & Tuesday 9 June
  • Monday 15 June
  • Monday 22 June
  • Monday 29 June
  • Monday 6 July
  • Monday 13 July

All workshops are 1 – 3pm at Launchpad, Holy Jesus Hospital, City Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 2AS

Three: The NTWSU&C network and Launchpad are starting a new Unusual Experiences/hearing Voices peer support group. Its shape and format will be decided by its members, so there’s an inaugural meeting for people who might be interested in being involved, at Launchpad, on Friday the 12th of June at 2pm
